I Know People

There are rules that apply when I accept or request Facebook friends. These rules consist of:
- Do I know you or have I met you?
- If “no” is the answer to question #1, then are we associated business or network-wise or do we share a common bond over a specific chronic condition?
- Do we have a mutual friend and will most likely meet soon?
- Are we Tweeps?
- Have you made a donation to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation?
I am not a FB friend collector to boost my friend count up only to make myself look more popular. Therefore, one of the above rules must apply. And I refuse to be the type of person that says “I don’t even know half of my Facebook friends” in a stuck-up manner. So I started a project. Call it my Facebook Project. Although I really do need a creative name for this project, so feel free to share your two cents worth once you hear me out.
I want to know my friends. When it comes to social networking, I subscribe to Jeff Turner’s theory of YEO, You Engaging Others. Therefore if we are FB friends, be prepared to be tagged. I have created an album titled “I Know My Facebook Friends” and hopefully you’re in it. If not, and we run into each other while out and about or at a convention, don’t be surprised when I snap our picture from my Blackberry. It will take some time to get everyone in the album, but it will be a challenge that I look forward to.

Look, if you don’t want to be friends anymore, just say it. Don’t come up with this convoluted method of getting rid of me.
On a serious note, I sort of have the same policy. We have to have ‘met’ to be my Facebook friend. It’s one of the places online where I readily share family details and hence, a little more secured.
‘Met’ with quotations around it means met in some way. I have some friends who are fellow bloggers. I’ve never met them in person, but we know details about each other and I would easily call them friends.

Hi – came across your blog from landlord-success.com… while researching. Thinking about getting involved in rental properties.
Rules 2, 1/2 of 4, and 5 also apply. Thanks for all the good info
