September 30th came and went today. It was a big deal for me, it was the Walk to Find a Cure for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in St. Louis that we had been planning for since January. I’m sure you saw the video. There were probably 5,000 people that attended the walk and the total raised was over $1 million. To me, that is just incredible!
Finding a cure for diabetes is so important to me. It is the only way that I will ever be normal again. Although after these last 60 days, I’m not so sure what normal is anymore. I’d love to be part of bringing a chapter of the JDRF to Springfield and now I feel a really really strong desire to do so even more.
After the walk today, as we all sat under a shade tree and talked, I could help but be thankful for the support people in my life. I owe a huge thank you to first and foremost, Ty and my kids. Other people that attended were my parents, 2 sisters and grandparents from Omaha, NE all who sacrificed their “Husker Saturday” to drive to St. Louis. My brother & his wife and my 4 month old nephew followed us up there and we had a great time. My close friends The Worsham’s and The Dizmang’s also made the trip to be part of this. Thank you to all of you that I mentioned above for doing this for me.
Here is Jake’s perspective on the JDRF Walk:
