A Sticky Situation

omnipod_stuckI’ve been struggling with the Omnipod insulin pump in keeping it stuck on me for the full 3 days.  I’ve tried everything from hunting and pecking at every Walgreens/Wal-Mart for Liquid Bandage to medical bandages and tape and yet the Omnipod still kept falling off within 36 hours.  I would pile bandages on top of the pump and it would just slide off after a shower.

So I’m left with two choices, either quit showering or quit the Omnipod.  Neither is really an option.  So I consulted a few blogs and I was given the answers of everything from using super glue to bathing in vodka.  What was funny about the latter idea, was that it wasn’t too far off base.

I ended up calling Omnipod and they put me in touch with a local rep/trainer.  And she told me that my skin had too much oil in it and I needed to rub it down hard with alcohol.  Rubbing alcohol, not vodka.  She suggested rubbing the area pretty hard with a make-up remover pad and alcohol until the area became red.  Let it dry completely and then place the Omnipod directly on the area.  Supposedly it dries up the skin allowing the the stick to stay stuck.  Once the ‘pod is on, I then go over the edges with the liquid bandage.

Amazingly…it worked!  Now I can shower and get my insulin too.

This post is just out there for all the other ‘pod users who are struggling with the same thing and Googling for answers.  I’m sure if you have Googled it (like I did) you probably laughed at the whole mayonnaise and peanut butter trick too that kept coming up.

“the whole mayonnaise and peanut butter trick”

Um…that just sounds really disgusting. :)

Glad you were able to find a real solution. :)
