Wearing Tennis Shoes All Week

My tennis shoes have been an inspiration to me this week. I rarely wear tennis shoes to work, but this week I have worn them everyday.
As much as I would like to have some meaningful reason for why I wore my tennis shoes all week, I unfortuntely do not. You see, the weather (there I go talking about the weather again) has been awful this week. Lots of snow and sleet and ice. Therefore it gets treacherous to get around in 3″-4″ heels with cute straps that are meant to be dressy. So bring on the casual tennis shoes (or sneakers).
But they have actually become inspirational for me because not only did I get a lot of work done, I also got a lot planned and worked out for the first annual Walk To Cure diabetes here in Springfield this spring. Get it? Tennis shoes = Walk To Cure Diabetes? OK, maybe inspirational isn’t the word I am looking for, but maybe more like “an aid in creativity” or “focus and vision”. OK, I will give up on trying to sound all zen about this.
Although we are still working out some of the big details, we are getting closer to bringing it all together. And…good news! You can now sign up for the Springfield JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes online! We’re shooting for a goal of 1,500 people and are going to raise $50,000 for type 1 diabetes research. The walk takes place on May 30, 2009 at 10:00am at Founders Park in Springfield, MO.
By the way…is it “tennis shoes” or “sneakers”? It’s been a long standing argument in my family for quite some time. The family breadwinner (Ty) says the appropriate name for these shoes is “sneakers”. I couldn’t disagree more. Sneakers? Really? What are you doing in them, sneaking up on people?

Sneakers is the universal term. Are you on your way to play tennis in them?
