Cold Chicken Nuggets For Dinner

The hubby is out of town on a business trip and I am having nothing but showdowns with child 1 and child 2. They think that they can get away with anything because Dad isn’t home to lay down the law. However, we should be seeing a change in the wind direction now as Mom (that would be me) has finally held her ground.
Last night I got played and talked into picking up McDonald’s chicken and fries and vanilla shakes. I know, ew. And the kids don’t even like it, but they really wanted a vanilla shake. In my previous drive-thru nightmares with these kids, I know that they aren’t going to eat the food, so I tell them that they can’t have their shakes until they eat all of their food. Long story short, we get home and they “finish” their food and show me the empty containers so I let them have the shakes. Later we all go to bed thinking all is well that ends well, right?
The next morning we get into the car to go to school and as I am helping them get buckled in, I notice four chicken nuggets in child number 2′s cupholder. “What is this?!” I say, a little bit louder than I should. He looks at me and says “oh, I didn’t really eat my chicken, I hid it in here”. At this point, I feel stupid and gullible because I believed these little runts that they actually ate their disgusting drive-thru dinner that they had begged me for. Come to find out…child #1 did the same thing with his french fries. Now I am frustrated and these children are laughing with pride that they had pulled one over on their mother!
Now fast forward all day to dinner time. I serve them their leftover chicken and fries that they had so cleverly hidden in the car the night before. Only I couldn’t bring myself to feed them chicken that had been left out overnight (in the car no less). So I went to McDonald’s around 2pm this afternoon and bought fresh chicken and fries and put it in the fridge. Then when dinner came around, I served them the “leftover” chicken nuggets and fries. No, I didn’t heat them up. I made them eat them as is. They could have nothing more until they finished. They thought it was disgusting that it was left in the car all night. Now who is laughing (on the inside)?
Some of you may call it cruel. But, after what those kids had to eat, I don’t think that they will lie to me about it again. And, I don’t think we will have to do McDonald’s drive-thru again for a really long time. Thank God.

That is one of the funniest stories I have read. I love reality discipline I have a girl, 7 and boy 9 and this is the kind of thing they would pull on their mom.

OMG!!! Too funny! You are so slick to even think of doing that! Kudos from me. I only wish I would have thought of doing something like that.

Oh my gosh, that is totally awesome. I’ll have to remember it too, because my 3-year old seems to think the only thing he can eat is chicken nuggets and pizza. Everything else that is good, healthy or different is a huge fight. Every dinner is a fight. I’m sure some day he’ll be trying his hand at the same kind of scandals!
