So I’m sure you’ve noticed the new blog changes…nice, huh? If you’re reading this on an RSS reader, please go to the site and look at the updates. So although pink is the primary color, I just want to make it clear to all my readers that purple is really my color. Purple has been my favorite since I was 4 years old when I got my first Care Bear (ShareBear to be exact), then the obsession with purple just kept going. I even drove a purple Honda Accord in my twenties! No, I am not abandoning my signature color, just mixing it up or so they say.
Anyway, I didn’t start writing this post to talk about my favorite colors. But since I am talking Pink, then I have to tell you about Daniel Pink. He is an author that wrote the book “A Whole New Mind” that my friend Bruce had turned me onto not too long ago. I was fortunate enough to meet Daniel Pink at the NAR convention back in early November.
One of his theories is that you should use empathy as a marketing tool. Keep in mind that there is a difference between empathy and sympathy. Where design was 15 years ago, story now is. <insert empathetic story here>. In other words, share the stories that come with selling that house not the design features. People are motivated by stories and how it relates to them. And in a world that we live in today with so many depressing and negative stories on the news, who wouldn’t want to hear the good stuff? Anyway, that explains what I got out of his 90 minute seminar (among many other things) and also why I started this post off with nostalgic stories about my passion for the color purple.
I’ll finish the book and let you know.
