Pod Haters No More!

The OmniPod insulin pump system

The OmniPod insulin pump system

Haters no more!  After months of jumping through hoops and dealing with red tape, United Healthcare has finally come thru and approved my case for the Omnipod Insulin Pump. Yea!

The insulin pump is one of the closest things a diabetic has to an artificial pancreas.  It continually delivers insulin into the body through the pump infusion set instead of through insulin shots using a needle.  The great thing about the Omnipod is that there are no tubes or wiring!  My old Medtronic Minimed pump (that I was on for 8 years before giving up, because of the many malfunctions, 2 years ago and went back on shots) had a tube that would constantly get caught in my clothing and a small tug would cause it to come out of my skin and become disconnected leaving me with no insulin in my body.

So in the mail today, I got a letter from United Healthcare stating that they have reviewed my case (they have already denied me twice before this) and have decided to cover the ‘pod in-network.  Yea! 100% coverage!  Haters no more!

Great News! I know this new technology will make things better, but it is still not a cure so the fight continues. .
Hope everyone comes out for the BB-Q tomorrow to help in the quest!
